About the role:

The Deputy MLRO for Malta will report to the European Head of Compliance amp; MLRO and be responsible for supporting Crypto.com’s Malta regulated businesses in their AML/CFT compliance obligations, including the management of regulatory examinations and compliance independent reviews / external audits, maintaining program documentation and tracking and driving finding, recommendations and observations. You will also ensure robust policies and controls are in place across Crypto.com’s Malta regulated businesses, and that they remain in line with regulatory change.

In this role, you will:

  • Carry out the role of Deputy MLRO for two Maltese entities (which are currently in the application stage for an e-money license and a VFA Service Provider license);
  • Drafting and reviewing AML/CFT policies and procedures whilst ensuring these are in line with the Company’s regulatory obligations;
  • Regularly assess the efficiency of the policies and procedures in place and recommend effective improvements;
  • Gain proper oversight on outsourced compliance functions and set up SLAs and ongoing monitoring procedures to ensure procedures are being properly implemented;
  • Manage the team responsible for external reporting to the FIAU, ensuring this is being done in a timely manner and in adherence to the applicable FIAU implementing procedures;
  • Develop and manage a regular monitoring and reporting process to inform senior management, the audit committee and the board, as necessary and required;
  • Understand and have continuing knowledge of all local and applicable EU AML/ CFT requirements to ensure that the AML/ CFT program is consistent with all applicable local laws, regulations and rules and ensuring that the AML/ CFT program is updated, as required, in light of changes to such laws, regulations and rules;
  • Carry out self-assessments of the compliance function, processes and procedures in place;
  • Conduct or direct the internal investigation of compliance issues;
  • Ensure that all activity and transactions that are identified as potentially suspicious are investigated, reviewed and resolved in accordance with established procedures;
  • Coordinate with the Head of Compliance amp; MLRO to address issues raised in internal audit reports, self-assessments, compliance reviews or regulator’s examination about AML/ CFT policies;
  • Personally manage and where appropriate carry out high profile/sensitive investigations;
  • Establish and maintain liaison with local, regional and international financial industry representatives to proactively identify current fraud trends, criminal activity and the identification of organised criminal groups and influence security best practices;
  • Carry out regular Company training in relation to AML/CFT that all members of staff are expected to carry out;
  • Verify that all firm and regulatory policies and procedures related to the Compliance function have been documented, implemented, and communicated;
  • Reporting obligations regarding Suspicious Transaction Reports (STRs) both internally in terms of reviewing and assessing whether to externalise and STR, and externally when deemed relevant by the means of an STR report filed via the CASPAR platform of the FIAU;
  • Maintain documentation of compliance activities, such as complaints received or investigation outcomes;
  • Serve as a main contact to the local regulatory and supervision authorities in relation to the conduct of the Company in view of the AML/ CFT regulations, laws and rules that are currently enforced;
  • Provide assistance to internal or external auditors in compliance reviews.
  • Prepare compliance audit data by compiling and analysing internal information;
  • Liaise with other departments to prepare data required for the submission of reports requested by the regulators;
  • Lead the preparation and coordination of responses to requests submitted by the regulatory authorities.

Requirements

  • Minimum of three years of relevant experience working with (i) a financial institution (payment service provider / e-money) and preferably experience also within the virtual financial assets market; or (ii) a regulatory authority; or (iii) a law firm handling compliance matters relating to AML, and applicable payments services laws and regulations;
